A native of Pennsylvania, Valerie was drawn to percussion at an early age when she began to play her father's drums. She started lessons with her father's teacher, a percussionist with the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra who dedicated his life to teaching music to young people.

Valerie graduated from Millersville University with a degree in psychology. She honed her percussion skills at Millersville by playing in the Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble, and by accompanying musicals and recitals.

After college, Valerie worked as a psychiatric technician before beginning her career as mother and homeschool teacher for Michael, Aaron, and Emily. In addition, Valerie assists her husband, Daniel, also a percussionist, with the family business.

Valerie joined The NCC in 1998. She also plays drums with the Chapelgate Presbyterian Church orchestra.
