Judy Hooks: Organ Accompanist |
Judy was reared and educated in the Southwest (New Mexico and California). Her career as an accompanist began by working with her father (who was a Minister of Music) and continued through college. Judy graduated from Los Angeles Harbor College with a degree in music theory and also attended the University of New Mexico.
In 1984, Judy joined The National Christian Choir as a singer, but soon became the organ accompanist. In 1997, she assumed the role of piano accompanist, but returned to the organ in the fall of 2002 when Kathy Bowman rejoined The Choir. Judy's musical experience over the years includes accompanying music reading seminars, teaching workshops for the church pianist, directing youth and adult choirs, leading vocal and instrumental ensembles, and teaching piano and music theory. She is gifted in arranging both choral and instrumental music, and her sensitivity and heart for the Lord shine through the selections that have been used on some of The NCC recordings.
For Judy, The NCC has been a family affair. Her daughter, Kimberly Broadhurst (who is married with two children), sang with The NCC during high school and again after college. Her husband, RB, is The Choir's Sound Engineer. Judy is currently working as a freelance musician, and she and RB live in Laurel, Maryland.
