I Can See Clearly Now
My daughter’s 1920’s–era home in Ohio has unique features hailing from a bygone era. One of those was crank-operated casement windows which had deteriorated through years of severe weather. During a recent visit, workmen were finishing the installation of new replacement windows. Wow! What a difference! I hadn’t realized how clouded my view had been of their lovely yard outside. I couldn’t keep from staring out the windows – the view was crystal clear!
I was reminded of I Corinthians 13:12: “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face.” How often do we have a clouded view of the circumstances around us? How often do we misjudge others or fail to perceive their actions correctly? We can think we’re seeing a situation clearly, only to find out later that our perception was totally wrong!
It’s amazing what can happen when we ask God to “clean the glass” – to remove the filters through which we so often see things: filters such as fear, selfishness, doubt, jealousy. These are like blotches on the windows of our heart, preventing us from accurately perceiving events and people around us. May our prayer be “Lord, help me see clearly – help me see YOUR view of things”. Amen!
