Lauryl’s music career began at the age of three years old when she sang, all by memory, her first solo in church. Her father, a minister for over 50 years, says she was “on key all the way”. Her mother, who holds a degree in piano performance, gave her children a musical heritage and made sure each of her children had music/piano training. Lauryl has been singing and playing piano ever since she can remember. Lauryl grew up throughout a number of states in the US. She has lived in places such as Chicago, Charlotte, and the Washington D.C. area.
Lauryl decided to go back to school later in life and now holds a B.A. in Music from Shepherd University with a concentration in composition. Technology has also been a large part of Lauryl’s journey. When she received her first computer back in the later 1980’s she took it apart and put it back together. Her love for technology led her to a position at Shepherd University as Instructional Technologist. She teaches faculty how to integrate technology with pedagogy. In 2010, she received a Masters degree in Educational Technology from Boise State University. She is now trying her skills at teaching a freshman course at SU.
She has played the role of Music/Choir Director in various local churches over a 25-year span. Her experiences include singing/keyboards/piano in large productions, dinner theaters, operas, directing various bands and orchestras, performing voice/organ/keyboard work in various venues such as weddings, funerals, and local jazz bands. She has also performed with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra via the Hagerstown Choral Arts Society. Lauryl has conducted productions and cantatas, and has experience in sound design.
Lauryl currently resides in Hagerstown, Maryland. She has two children. Her daughter is a busy mother of two young children and involved musically in her local church. Her son is a Worship and Arts Pastor in Florida. Adding to Lauryl’s list of duties, she is the Music Director at a local church in Hagerstown. Lauryl hopes to continue composing and getting some of her works published.
